Next Season is a fully sactioned 501(c)(3) corporation that provides benefits and care to athletes who have endured physical, mental or monetary difficulties as a result of their participation in sports. In addition, the foundation seeks to identify and study the gaps between what is known and what is done to prevent future pain and suffering. Moreover, Next Season aspires to provide practical information to the public. The goal is to improve the quality of life for athletes following their careers by providing resource options designed to optimize healthcare and quality of life.
The History of the Organization
With the overwhelming number of injuries facing former athletes, it became apparent that a unique foundation was necessary. Next Season was founded in February 2009, by Nicolai Lechuga, whose involvement in Sports Management sensitized him to the distress of former athletes. Next Season is a non-profit foundation that will directly assist former athletes.
The Next Season Team
Next Season’s management team is composed of a group of dedicated and talented individuals. Founder, Nicolai Lechuga, is Next Seasons Chief Executive Officer. The Secretary and Chief Operations Officer, Lysette Rios, has a law degree from St. Mary’s University, with a vast knowledge in player benefits and worker’s compensation. The Chief Financial Officer, Jonathan Trope, has a background in economics and mathematics. The Board of Directors is composed of attorney Eric Traut, partner of the Traut Law Firm in Santa Ana, California. Eric is recognized as one of the top trial lawyers in California. Dr. David Lechuga, the Medical Director of Next Season, is a board-certified clinical psychologist, rehabilitation psychologist, and neuropsychologist. Dr. Lechuga is the Director of the Neurobehavioral Clinic and Counseling Center in Lake Forest, California.
